BIOGRAPHY
Takay earned a reputation as a much sought after artist and photographer beginning in the mid nineties. Upon completing his degree in Japan, he relocated to London and began shooting his own narratives. In 1998, he landed editorials with i-D, The Face, and Arena. His work garnered the attention from clients and design houses such as Emporio Armani, Armani Jeans, Yves St Laurent, Y3, Levis, Cerruti, Estee Lauder, Shiseido, Vichy, H&M, French Connection, Anna Sui, and many more. Takay has continued to contribute regularly to Vogue, L’Uomo, Vogue Homme, Vogue Japan, Vogue Russia, Vogue Spain, D magazine (Italy), Harper’s Bazaar Germany, Numero Japan , Amica (Italy), Elle France , Marie Claire (US), Huge, l’officeil France, l’officiel Hommes.
Takay has had several solo exhibitions of his work in London, Tokyo and New York. He has been involved in several prestigious fashion exhibitions at major institutions around the world. His work was in the Victoria & Albert Museum’s exhibition Men in Skirts which travelled to the Metropolitan Museum (NY) in 2003. He joined the Couture Chanel exhibition at the National Museum of China in Beijing and then Shanghai 2010. The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier, From Sidewalk to the Catwalk touring from 2011-2016 to 12 cities around the world. And the Met’s spring 2013 Costume Institute exhibition PUNK: Chaos to Couture. In 2016 Takay released his book ECHOS at Book Marc, Tokyo. In 2020 Takay made book Fluence Continuance of Yohji Yamamoto from Damiani. He also did exhibition this project at Akio Nagasawa Gallery Aoyama in Japan. In 2022 Takay made another book called In praise of shadow (Homage to Tadao Ando) from Akio Nagasawa publishing. He also did exhibition at Akio Nagasawa Gallery Ginza.
Takay has seamlessly transitioned from still photography into film and motion picture, while maintaining his evocative and fluid poetic style. In addition to working with esteemed clients, he has continued to work on personal projects and currently resides in Japan and North America. Takay is currently represented by TPI in Japan, Art Department in USA and Bloc Productions in Asia.
